I was listening to NPR yesterday, and heard a story of the sadness that those in the South were feeling, for they were unable to "give" to the cause of cleaning up the oil spill, or help in any other real constructive ways. They mentioned that, after Katrina, those who were carpenters were able to give of their time and build houses; the same with plumbers, electricians, and nearly all other professions. But there is the sense that people don't even know "how" to give during this disaster.I think this relates a lot to do with your observation of feeling secure in the present. This is a mammoth disaster, that seems nearly unstoppable. Yet, the thing that might be most difficult is that people can't seem to "give anything" to make themselves feel "secure in the present."Anyway, thought this was a great post.
